ISN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

Montessori Method for Preschool and Kindergarten

In Preschool (3/4 years old) and Kindergarten (5 years old), children learn from each other, work together, and develop at their own pace. Through “child-centered” education, the aim is to extend children’s awareness, confidence, and independence as well as their knowledge, concepts, and skills using their experiences and interests to introduce new materials.

Curriculum delivery  incorporates various strategies and activities to effectively accommodate different learning styles. Role play, story time, song and dance, visual media, arts and crafts, and nature discovery all enhance the curriculum.

ISN is an Official Montessori Method School for Preschool & Kindergarten

The early childhood department follows the Montessori Methodology and provides  a stimulating environment designed to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of each individual child, allowing him/her to work to the best of his/her potential.

Subject areas include:

  • Language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.

  • Music is taught by specialist teachers for both preschool and kindergarten.

  • Art and Physical Education are also taught by specialist teachers for the kindergarten class, whereas the preschool classroom teacher incorporates Art and Movement lessons within her curriculum.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DEVELOPMENT

We're setting the foundations for life-long learning.

The early learning experience has a profound effect in shaping the child’s future health, happiness, growth, and overall development.  Research shows that early development directly affects the way connections are made in the brain, and these connections have a direct impact on creating the foundations for the acquisition of knowledge and skills that shape a child’s learning throughout their entire educational path.

This is why ISN's Early Childhood offering is carefully developed and implemented by a qualified team of teachers and education specialists who have the competence to provide your child with the best start for their educational experience.

LEARNING CORNERSTONES

Social Emotional Development

The program aims to help children get a strong start in school, so they can go on to have successful, rewarding lives.  By giving our students a correct start at a young age, we’re giving our students a brighter future.

Values such as kindness, honesty, and consideration for others are stressed continuously throughout the year. The curriculum encourages good citizenship and the children are given the responsibility of various tasks within the classroom on a rotating basis. Children learn to interact in a cooperative manner within an international setting, developing a desire to embrace new cultures and experiences. Celebrations of multicultural holidays are ongoing throughout the school year, reinforcing tolerance and the acceptance of the global community.

The free choice of Montessori materials promotes confidence and generates the self-motivation necessary to create successful students. As the child masters concepts, either more challenging variations of the materials are presented or new materials are introduced.

English Language Development

The Early Childhood classes encourage their students to communicate and express their feelings throughout the day. Class discussions, both planned and spontaneous, occur frequently, allowing the children to contribute their opinions and experiences. Weekly “show and tell” gives the opportunity to share things that are personally important to each child. New vocabulary is constantly introduced and incorporated into common usage. Listening skills are developed and attuned by daily calendar lessons and story time. Children are exposed to different forms of literature and develop an appreciation for books. Reading is approached through phonemic awareness.

“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when man’s intelligence itself  is being formed."

In order to tailor a program that responds to individual child needs, a primary years teacher must know how to assess and evaluate a child from many points of view, be it physical, cognitive, emotional, or social.  A primary years teacher must know how to challenge a child appropriately, offering opportunities to learn in ways best suited to each child’s own phases of growth.
