ISN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAM

Enriching the Child:  Grades 1 - 5

In grades one through five, students receive a more substantive introduction to the core elements of the academic curriculum: language arts, math, foreign language, science, social studies, fine arts, and physical education. The program is enhanced by activities such as story-time, song and dance, natural discovery, outdoor play, arts and crafts, role-play, and visual media.

Italy:  Our Host Nation

The Italian State Program is offered to Italian Nationals (or students with an adequate knowledge of Italian) who would like to pursue the attainment of the Italian Elementary and Middle School diplomas .  For those students who do not speak Italian and would like to learn and discover the richness of the Italian language, culture and heritage, we offer the Italian Host Nation Course as part of our regular curriculum.

Technology & Digital Learning

Our school strives to integrate technology as a learning tool to make learning fun, exciting, and engaging for your child.  Whether students are using dedicated software to create digital art or music themes; or they're researching information on the internet and developing digital presentations; or they're using interactive whiteboards to explore linguistic or mathematical concepts, students can expect technology to play a regular and routine role in their learning at ISN.

WHAT WILL YOUR CHILD LEARN & DO

Our Elementary School is a fun, creative, and inclusive place for young people to learn about and explore the world around them. Elementary students study a wide range of subjects and learn respectful teamwork and individual responsibility. ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

Acquiring Academic and Social Language Skills

Students experience language learning for basic interpersonal communication as well as for cognitive academic language proficiency in a context-rich, authentic environment.

At ISN, teachers create a welcoming environment in which learners feel comfortable trying out new vocabulary and language structures without fear of embarrassment or criticism. The instructional model we believe in is to empower our multilingual students rather than allowing a language difference to become a disabling characteristic.

Language skills required for social interactions are relatively easy to learn and students may appear to be proficient English speakers.  Academic language proficiency however is more complex and requires ad hoc preparation. ISN students learn language skills needed for academic instruction and learning through.
